The pull down to the back of the neck is a commonly used exercise in many gyms, and is a variation of the pull down exercise. Bringing the bar to the rear of the head results in the upper arms being more perpendicular to the torso, therefore leading to shoulder adduction which stimulates the latissimus dorsi muscle greatly. The behind the neck pull down does place the shoulder joint in a possibly troublesome position however, and those with injurious rotator cuffs may wish to avoid this exercise.
Brining the bar to the back of the head avoids the arms being brought towards the front of the torso which would result in the extension of the shoulder. The upper arms being flared outwards at ninety degrees to the torso results in the adduction of the shoulder. The major muscles of the back will be recruited during the behind the neck pull down, including the latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, and the lower and middle trapezius.
Many trainers avoid the behind neck pull down due to the unnatural position of the body during the lift which may be hazardous. Those with injurious necks, backs, elbows or shoulder joints may wish to totally avoid this exercise. Those who opt to perform this exercise should pay close attention to their form during the execution of the lift. Tilting the head excessively forward can cause injury, and so can excessive jerking. A choice of many is to bring the bar to no further than ear level, avoiding the main hazardous zone where the bar is brought down towards the back of the neck.
Those new to the exercise would be recommended to begin with a light weight, ensuring the form of the exercise is mastered before progressing onto a greater weight. More advanced trainers can progress using greater resistance on the pull down station, or alternatively perform the exercise on a pull up station with extra resistance added to a chinning belt.
Gains in muscle growth are obtained with a repetition range typically between eight and twelve. Due to the nature of the exercise, it would be wise to avoid excessive weight with low repetitions when performing this exercise. Those who seek to build muscle strength may wish to perform the chin up or pull up using greater resistance and low repetitions, typically between one and six per set.

There are a myriad of ways to treat a frozen shoulder these days, some of which are good and some which may leave the sufferer with more pain and loss of motion than they started with. This article will cover a couple of key components to successful frozen shoulder treatment, and a few treatment programs to avoid.
The first key element in any treatment program is consistency. Whether you are in your mid twenties (yes, this age group suffers as well), a baby boomer, or a senior in the 60 plus range, you must stay consistent with the prescribed treatment on a daily basis for at least 3 weeks before abandoning the program for another one, or worse, quitting altogether. Now if you're seeing increases in range of motion or function after 3 weeks, you may need to stay with your program another 4-5 weeks for maximum gains. The reason is that it takes up to 3 weeks to recover from initial irritation from stretching or breaking loose adhesions that may have formed in the joint capsule.
The second key element in successful frozen shoulder treatment is intensity. All too often I see patients "going through the motions" of a well designed program without sufficient intensity and become discouraged because lack of results. Correct intensity varies from one individual to another but can easily be learned in the first few sessions. Thinking of the phrase "medium-to-strong, but not fully strong" and apply it to each exercise. For instance, if you are stretching in a particular direction, you should feel a "medium-to-strong" stretch, but not fully strong or unbearably painful, and hold that stretch.
As far as unsuccessful treatments, a few guidelines apply as to which ones to avoid:
Programs that sound gimmicky (i.e holding the non-burning end of a lit candle in your ear will probably not help your frozen shoulder) Programs that are not research-based or evidence-based (i.e. programs where the author has no credentials) Programs that promise instant relief of symptoms (i.e. "Cure your frozen shoulder overnight!") Programs based only on relief of symptoms and no focus on return of function
These are just a few red flags to watch for, however there are a few good programs available and would encourage anyone seeking frozen shoulder treatment to make sure they meet some of the criteria above.
After you have received your knee replacement, the rehabilitation is where the real work begins and your success will depend on your ability to concentrate and,focus on your exercise and instructions given by your rehabilitation professional. Following are three tips that you can use when receiving physical therapy not only for a knee replacement but after any orthopedic surgery for that matter.
1. Turn off all media outlets. There is nothing more disturbing to a physical therapy session then to have a radio or television that you have to compete with. Though you may be watching something that is important to you, your full concentration cannot be given with one eye or ear to the media outlet and another on to your rehabilitation professional. You will be expected to learn the exercises to complete on your off days from rehab so, getting the lesson down with a full understanding is vital if you want to succeed and see results fast.
2. Keep the animals out of the room. Yes this is a big one. Everyone loves their animals however you will be hard pressed to concentrate on instruction and feel the appropriate muscles working with the dog or cat jumping into the middle of the exercise session. This happens more then you can imagine. To fully concentrate and actually visualize the knee and other muscular structures working, you need to keep your eye on the body part and not on the pet that may jump on that fresh incision.
3. Keep family members out. Now this is a tricky one. keeping out family members include the kids for instance that cannot settle down or the brother or sister that cannot help but share their personal problems or aches and pains with the physical therapist. After all they are there to help you. Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with a caregiver, spouse, or friend that is assisting you with your exercises and would like to observe to sit and learn. it is welcomed for the most part and there are times when having someone there can be reassuring just for moral support.
Keeping your full focus and total concentration during your exercise session is simply a matter of reducing outside interferences so that your session is efficient and productive. Keeping focused then allows you to connect your mind to the muscle groups being exercised which in turns magnifies your results.

The Tailcoat
The trend of wearing tailcoats began in the 19th century. What is considered formal wear today started out as a form of riding jacket, with its front edges cut away to provide space for the rider's knees, enabling him to gallop off while hunting or to trot away at a leisurely pace. Motorcycles conjure up different images for different people. For some they speak of freedom, adventure and the open road, for others they epitomize rebellion. Boxing promoter Frank Warren must be furious. The 'spectacle' that was presented to the viewing public, never mind the paying fans inside London's ExCel arena, on Saturday 10 th Dec 2005 was a diabolical demonstration of exactly how far heavyweight boxing has fallen. For seemingly the first time in years, terrestrial television was broadcasting a boxing match in a prime time viewing slot - Mainly, one suspects, down to the efforts of Frank Warren and others of his kind. On the basis of that viewing, it will again be a long time before British boxing fans will want to stay in on Saturday night to watch the big fight.
The pre-match build up between Harrison and Williams was good enough to have graced a meeting between nations preparing for war. The expectation of a war, played out under the Marques of Queensbury's rules, hung in the air as the two fighters made their way to the ring to great fanfare. The style of which normally accompanies world title fights, not the much devalued commonwealth crown. Much had been made of which Danny Williams would turn up for the fight, the one who's powerful punching savaged Mike Tyson (albeit a defeated shadow of his former self), or the one who lost so weakly on points to Michael Sprott over a year before. As he walked to the ring he looked determined and focussed, a warrior ready to do battle. Audley Harrison, as is his accustomed way, strutted to the ring in the style of a rap star, surrounded by his minders.
The first round started slowly, with both fighters hardly throwing a punch, measuring each other up. Perhaps, if Audley's pathetically weak jabbing is to be counted, there were half a dozen punches thrown during the three minutes. Nothing to worry about there - Heavyweight boxing has rarely seen an explosive first round since the Mike Tyson glory days. The power of the two men in the ring normally dictates a cagy opening, neither wanting to over commit and be caught out.
So into the second round where a slight raising of the pace was perhaps expected. Danny Williams, having the shorter reach and much more intense inside fight game was expected to hound the long reaching jab of Audley, aggressively pushing him onto the back foot. Expert opinion suggested that Audley would have too much boxing skill to be trapped on the ropes by an aggressive Danny Williams. So it was in expectation that the crowd waited for the end of the phoney war, counting the punches. Unfortunately, by the end of the second round, one hand was enough fingers to keep track. Danny Williams, following his man round the ring, was far from the aggressive, powerful punching fighter we had been led to believe he could be, yet still stole the round from the lifeless Harrison. In the third, Harrison finally put a couple of combinations together. But that was it for the round. All square, moving into the second quarter of the scheduled twelve rounds.
Surely now, in the fourth, we would see an increase in pace and work rate from both men as the fight opened up. It was not to be, the 'fight', such as it was had already settled into a pattern, Audley occasionally flicking out a jab that would not have bothered my grandmother as Williams followed him around the ring, looking for that one punch that would win him the day. Williams' style has always been a little uncomfortable to watch, but there is no doubting his punching power. He is in no way a dancer in the ring and is much uncomplicated. His solid chin is perhaps his best weapon in standing up square in front of an opponent and fighting toe to toe until his powerful right does the intended damage or covering up and taking the punishment.
The question marks over Audley's chin before the fight were still unchallenged as the fight moved through thee same pattern in the fifth, sixth, seventh, eight and ninth rounds. The chants of 'What a load of rubbish' from the paying spectators at ringside summed up the performances and it was noted when former world champion Naseem Hammed left his expensive seat next to Frank Warren half way through the fight. After seeing the explosive power of Olympic Silver Medallist, Amir Khan, stopping his man in two rounds, this was a dire spectacle. Two huge men walking around the ring, each unwilling to commit, to put together any sort of sustained attack was not what these boxing fans had paid to see.
One minute into the tenth and finally it looked as if the message had reached the centre of the ring as Danny Williams, starting the round aggressively, put together a combination, ending in cuffing Audley round the ear with a shot that sent him to the canvas. Audley's chin had not been tested, but a half caught cuff round the ear was enough to send him crashing downwards. When hit, Harrison looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. And for the next thirty seconds there was a golden opportunity for Williams to finish him. Perhaps even finish his professional career. As if not believing his luck, Williams merely retreated again, letting Harrison off the hook and allowing him the best part of two minutes wandering around the ring to recover. Just when it finally looked like the fight had come alive Williams failed to do his job.
As the eleventh began the tiredness in the two men was plain to see, all that walking around must be exhausting. At last it seemed as if Danny Williams was ready to take that risk and have a real go at Harrison, but a couple of good counter punches which rocked the Brixton man, soon saw him retreat into his shell and both men saw the round out holding onto each other. The final round was the best of the fight for Williams, perhaps sensing that if he won the round he could pinch the fight on points.
The final verdict from the judges at ringside was a split points win for Williams. No one could have any complaints on that score. Williams had been much more aggressive than Harrison - which amounted to about three punches per round - and it looked like a Williams win had the fight continued. Harrison offered nothing aside the weakest of jabs and a will to stay away from his opponent. Maybe now Audley Harrison will desist from the stream of self hype which continues to spill from his often neurologically detached mouth.
In short, this fight, if the term 'fight' can be used, was about as interesting as watching paint dry. Neither fighter seemed to have the will to win, merely the desperation not to lose. The heavyweight division at the moment is very short of stars and Audley Harrison, despite claims that he would prove he was the real deal, did nothing to step up and take it on. An opportunity missed. Williams on the other hand is perhaps at the end of his career and has gone as far as he can. The search for a British Heavyweight World Champion worthy of the substantial paydays it attracts will continue in vain. Neither of the men on display here fit the bill.

The legendary Gene Simmons, the face of the band Kiss is as famous today as he was in the 70s. The oversized costumes and cartoon-horror movie make up of the band was a rage and still sends crazed fans into a frenzy! Ear splitting amplified music, songs praising sex and Gene Simmons with his fire spitting and tongue sticking on-stage persona gave birth to a merchandising that is surprisingly a multi-million business venture.
